LANGLEY RCMP received a report on April 8 from a local Brookswood business near the intersection of 41 Avenue and 200 Street regarding a group of youths causing a disturbance in the area.

Officers reviewed video surveillance in the area that captured a driver engaging in dangerous driving behaviour by performing stunt driving manoeuvres in a public parking lot. Several youths were observed running nearby while the vehicle circled them, creating a significant risk to public safety. The driving behaviour also resulted in damage to the roadway.

Through video analysis, investigators identified the vehicle and located the driver, who was subsequently arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The driver, a Novice (“N”) licence holder, was issued several violations under the Motor Vehicle Act, including:

* Driving without due care and attention
* Failing to display an “N” sign
* Stunt driving

These offences carry fines, penalty points, and resulted in a seven-day vehicle impoundment. During the impound process, officers also observed numerous vehicle deficiencies. The vehicle was deemed unsafe for the roadway, and a Notice and Order was issued requiring a full inspection and necessary repairs at a certified facility before it can be driven again.

Investigators have forwarded a report to the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles recommending a review of the driver’s ability to continue maintaining a driver’s license.

“Dangerous and stunt driving behaviours place everyone at risk, including motorists, pedestrians, and nearby residents,” said Constable Meghan Marsden, Media Relations Officer forC Langley RCMP. “Keeping our roadways safe remains a priority. This type of driving behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Langley RCMP are asking the public to report dangerous driving when they see it. Witness information plays a critical role in helping police identify those responsible and prevent serious injuries or tragedies.

Anyone who observes dangerous driving is encouraged to safely gather details such as licence plate information, vehicle descriptions, video footage, as well as the location and time of the incident, and report it to police immediately.
