ON Tuesday, June 2, the Langley RCMP Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted a high-visibility targeted enforcement in the area of 256 Street and 0 Avenue.
Recognizing the hot weather conditions and the significant volume of cyclists on this roadway, the unit prioritized enforcement efforts to ensure cyclist safety and reduce risk. Within two hours, six drivers were ticketed for excessive speed and had their vehicles impounded for seven days. Each of these drivers were travelling more than 41km/h above the posted speed limit.
“Excessive speeding continues to pose a serious risk to public safety,” said Constable Meghan Marsden, Media Relations Officer for Langley RCMP. “We focused enforcement efforts in this area due to the high number of cyclists and the increased danger that speeding creates, especially in warmer weather. Drivers need to slow down and be mindful of others. We will continue targeted enforcement to help keep our community safe.”
Langley RCMP say they remain dedicated to maintaining safe roadways and reminding all motorists and cyclists to obey posted speed limits. “We encourage the public to report any high-risk driving behaviours to police so we can continue working together to keep our community safe,” they say.
