Langley shooting is third extortion-related one in two days

A third shooting in the Lower Mainland in two days exhibits brazen defiance of Canadian police forces by South Asian extortionists.On January 8, at approximately 5:17 a.m., Langley RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the 6900-block of 232 Street.Officers located evidence consistent with shots having been fired. Investigators believe the suspects arrived in a dark coloured sedan and fled the area immediately following the incident.

“Based on initial information we believe this incident is extortion-related. Investigators are liaising with partner agencies and working to determine possible linkages to other investigations,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of Langley RCMP. “Thankfully, there were no reported injuries as a result of this shooting.”

On Wednesday, January 7, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Surrey Police Service members responded to reports of a shooting in the 12300-block of 77A Avenue. Police located a home that had been damaged. Fortunately, nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

The same day, at approximately 5:10 a.m., Delta Police patrol officers responded to reports of shots fired at a home in the area of 84 Avenue and Brooke Road. The residence was occupied at the time; however, fortunately, no one was injured.

Police said both incidents are believed to be extortion-related.
