A man has been hospitalized after a large piece of ice crashed through the windshield of the truck he was driving on Friday on Highway 99 in Richmond.
Just before 2 p.m., Lower Mainland Traffic Service officers were called to Highway 99 at the Massey Tunnel for a report that a large piece of ice had gone through the windshield, smashing it and injuring the driver. The man was alone in the vehicle at the time.
The driver, a 49-year-old man from Surrey, was taken to a local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
One southbound lane was closed while emergency personnel attended to the driver and vehicle, but has since re-opened.
“We are continuing to investigate in an attempt to determine the source of the ice,” said RCMP Staff-Sgt. Janelle Shoihet.
“If you were a witness, or have dash-cam video of the collision, please contact the Lower Mainland Traffic Services at 604-526-9744 and cite file 2020-108 to report,” added Shoihet.
