Male shot in Surrey succumbs to his injuries (update)

SURREY RCMP said on Sunday that Saturday’s shooting is now a homicide investigation, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in.

A 37-year-old man has died of injuries, following a shooting outside a residence in the 16600-block of 19 Avenue. Police were called to the residence at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday.

While still early in the investigation, initial indications are that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between parties known to each other, police said.

Several people were detained by police following the incident, and police are working to determine who may have been involved in the shooting.

Surrey RCMP is working closely with IHIT investigators, as well as the Integrated Forensic Identification Team. Police are conducting neighborhood canvassing and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information. Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have dash camera footage from the area around the time of the shooting to contact police.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or possible dash camera footage can call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
