ON Wednesday, the New Westminster Police Department received a report of a man allegedly using a knife to break into a vehicle in the Sapperton neighbourhood.

When officers arrived, the suspect could be seen inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and New Westminster Police will be recommending charges connected to mischief to vehicle and breach of court ordered conditions.

“We want to thank the citizen that called 9-1-1 to report this crime in progress,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “Residents are our eyes and ears and when crimes are reported to us we can make arrests such as this one and dedicate additional resources to areas of the city which are seeing an increase in crime.”
