Mehboob Karim Alladina pleads guilty to smuggling tobacco, sentenced to house arrest and fined

MEHBOOB Karim Alladina pleaded guilty to two counts: smuggling tobacco, an offence under Section 159 of the Customs Act; and possessing and selling unstamped tobacco products, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Excise Act, 2001, in Richmond Provincial Court on June 21, the Canada Border Services Agency announced on Thursday.

He was handed a nine-month conditional sentence, including house arrest, on both counts and fined $49,892.70 for the Excise Act offence.

Between July 2008 and July 2015, Alladina organized the smuggling of over 10,000 kilograms of unstamped chewing tobacco.
