THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Thursday identified the victim of last Saturday’s shooting in Surrey as 58-year-old Michael Gordon Brown, of Surrey, who succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
The name of the victim has been released to advance the investigation and identify witnesses and associates.
Homicide investigators believe this was an isolated incident, though not random. It is not believed to be connected to gang activities.
On May 21 at around 9:49 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to shots fired in the 13700-block of Grosvenor Road. Frontline officers found a male victim suffering from serious injuries and had him transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
On May 25, the victim succumbed to his injuries and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken conduct of the investigation.
IHIT is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service. Scene and vehicle searches are continuing as is the examination of evidence collected. The neighbourhood canvass is continuing for witnesses and CCTV.
“We’ve accumulated much information thus far but are still looking for witnesses,” said IHIT Sgt. David Lee. “We are looking to speak with anyone who knew of Mr. Brown’s activities.”
IHIT is seeking dashcam footage or CCTV from the area in the 13700-block of Grosvenor Road around 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on May 21.
