Motorcyclist dead in collision involving firetruck in Stanley Park

EARLY Saturday afternoon, a multi-vehicle accident occurred near Lost Lagoon on the Stanley Park causeway involving a Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) firetruck responding to a call in Stanley Park and a motorcyclist.

Emergency personnel immediately arrived on scene, including Vancouver Police Department and EMS. Despite immediate response efforts of emergency personnel, the motorcyclist died on scene due to injuries.

The VFRS said: “A full investigation will take place to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding as an investigation takes place. Further updates will be provided at the appropriate time.”

VFRS Chief Karen Fry said: “Our crews respond to other people’s emergencies every day in this city, to be involved in such a tragic incident while responding is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to the friends and family of the motorcyclist and all those involved.”

The Stanley Park Causeway will remain closed for investigation. Check City of Vancouver social channels for the latest traffic impact information.

Vancouver Police later said in a statement that Vancouver Fire Rescue Services was responding to a call at approximately 12:45 p.m., travelling north on the causeway toward Stanley Park Drive, when the collision occurred.

Investigators believe the motorcyclist was traveling in the opposite direction when he collided with another vehicle and was then struck by the oncoming firetruck.

The motorcyclist died at the collision scene.

Officers from VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit ask witnesses or anyone with dash-cam video to call 604-717-3012.
