FURIOUS South Asians on Saturday demanded action from all levels of government to take action against extortionists who are still threatening South Asian businesses and others.
They aired their grievances at a town hall at Aria Banquet Hall organized by the Canadian Trucking Association of BC (CTA-BC) that had claimed in a press release that “a growing number of drivers throughout the industry” were facing extortion threats.
Among those present were MPs Randeep Sarai, Sukh Dhaliwal, Parm Bains, Tim Uppal, and Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, BC Conservative Party MLA Elenore Sturko, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, former MLA Mike de Jong and several BC Conservative Party candidates.
It added: “To date several members of the trucking community have been targeted by a group threatening their lives, and in some cases, the lives of their family members. This extortion is ongoing and needs to be addressed immediately.”
They asserted that all had to work collectively before the situation worsened.
