THE Canadian Trucking Association of BC (CTA-BC) says in a press release that it will be holding an urgent meeting “to address the continuing issue of extortion faced by a growing number of drivers throughout the industry.”
It adds: “To date several members of the trucking community have been targeted by a group threatening their lives, and in some cases, the lives of their family members. This extortion is ongoing and needs to be addressed immediately.”
The CTA-BC is holding a meeting on Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at Aria Banquet Hall, 12350 Pattullo Place, Surrey.
It is asking “all local MPs, MLAs, mayors and police chiefs and media to join us so that we can address what will be done about these threats to ensure the safety of not only our members and staff, but the broader public as well with unity.”
“We must work collectively before this urgent issue escalates any further,” it adds.
