A day after the stunning announcement that BC United was folding its campaign and urging it supporters to back the BC Conservatives under the leadereship of John Rustad, the BC NDP released the first of its television and digital advertisements ahead of the fall election campaign.
The first of the spots, entitled “Action to Help You”, highlights the BC NDP’s plan to tackle today’s tough challenges, and outlines Premier David Eby’s vision of a BC where you don’t just get by — you get ahead, the party said.
“Our first new ad shows David Eby’s laser-focus on taking action for people since he became premier less than two years ago and his work taking on today’s tough challenges,” said BC NDP campaign director Marie Della Mattia.
The second of the spots, entitled “Rustad’s Record,” informs voters about Rustad’s 20-year history of cutting services and protecting the status quo. Voters do not know much about Rustad, and this ad puts a spotlight on actions taken when he was in power that have hurt families in the past, like doubling MSP bills, hiking car insurance rates, or taking no action as BC’s housing costs spiraled out of control. It also highlights how Rustad is a risk we can’t afford, listing his healthcare cuts and history of giving tax breaks to the top 2%, the BC NDP said.
“We have known for some time that we would be running against John Rustad but to many in BC, he is a bit of a mystery,” said Mattia. “Voters may have heard recently about the strange views of his candidates but most people don’t know that John Rustad is a 20-year career politician with a record of cutting services and costing people more. This second ad invites them to take a closer look.”
These two ads, which will run on broadcast television and online Monday, are part of a multi-faceted campaign that the BC NDP said it will roll out to highlight the different choices for people across the province in the upcoming election.
