BC United on Tuesday called the throne speech lacklustre and slammed the government for what it said were more than seven years of policies which have made British Columbians worse off today than they were in 2017.
“This out-of-touch government hasn’t learned from its mistakes. British Columbians are looking for real action and results on the key issues of housing, costs of living, healthcare, and public safety and yet today David Eby and the NDP are content promising more of the same,” said BC United Leader Kevin Falcon.
“Housing is more unaffordable than ever, our healthcare system is crumbling, and serious public safety concerns are found in every community in British Columbia. By every metric, British Columbians are worse off today than they were before the NDP formed government.”
BC United said the speech from the throne rehashed countless old NDP failures such as:
* Inflationary deficits that continue to increase the high cost of gas, groceries, and rent.
* A collapsing healthcare system that fails to provide the care people need.
* Allowing criminals to terrorize people and businesses and be released mere hours after being arrested.
* Failing to cancel the NDP’s reckless decriminalization experiment.
* A big government approach to housing that has dramatically worsened affordability over the last seven years.
* Infrastructure projects that go wildly over-budget in order to pad the pockets of NDP donors while excluding the majority of B.C. workers.
“British Columbians were looking for hope as David Eby and the NDP outlined their plans to improve the countless crises our province is facing. Not only have the NDP failed to deliver that hope, but folks should hold on to their wallets, because the next step is for the massive inflationary budget deficit that will only make life more unaffordable for everyday people,” added Falcon.
“There will be no accountability for these promises before the election so after more than seven years of broken NDP promises and failure to act, British Columbians sadly won’t be expecting any different this time. It’s disappointing that this speech spent more time attacking the Opposition than it did proposing solutions to the problems facing our province. Only BC United has a real plan to deliver the change B.C. desperately needs.”
