THE New Westminster Police Department on Monday announced that they have terminated the employment of one of their sworn members after an internal theft investigation.

The department said they were maintaining their commitment to public trust and transparency and wanted to be proactive in reporting this matter.

The NWPD said: “The member involved had eight years of service, and although no longer employed with the NWPD they will continue to face both Police Act and Criminal Code allegations related to other matters.”

“A critical function of any police department is to maintain public trust by acting with the utmost of integrity and ensuring a strong commitment to ethical behavior by all of its employees,” said Chief Constable Dave Jones. “This allegation was taken very seriously from the outset and I can assure the community that a significant amount of effort and resources were committed to this investigation to ensure that the information gathered was accurate and complete.”

As this matter continues to be adjudicated, the NWPD said they were not in a position to provide further details at this time.
