ON Friday, August 1 at approximately midnight, New Westminster Police Department officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a fight in the 800-block of Ewen Avenue in the Queensborough neighbourhood.

Officers arrived on scene and located a man who appeared to be the victim of a stabbing. Officers provided emergency first aid, including efforts to control bleeding, and BC Emergency Health Services transported the victim to hospital.

The altercation is believed to have taken place near a bus stop, and officers from the Major Crime Unit will be in the area collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses.

“We know residents may have noticed an increased police presence in the area, and we want to assure the community that this was an isolated incident,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Our officers responded quickly and are working to determine what led to the altercation.”

Police said they encourage those responsible to turn themselves in to police.
