ON August 5 at approximately 7 p.m., two New Westminster Police Department officers were traveling on Stewardson Way when they were rear-ended by a driver.

Thankfully, the two officers did not sustain serious injuries. They exited their vehicle and spoke to the driver. An impaired driving investigation was conducted and the driver refused to provide a breath sample, which resulted in her being issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. As part of the 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, her vehicle was towed from the scene as her license was confiscated.

A group of approximately 15 motorcyclists stopped at the scene and spoke to officers about dangerous driving behaviours witnessed by the group before the driver collided with the police vehicle. The motorcyclists provided officers with video evidence that assisted officers in adding an additional ticket for driving without due care and attention.  

“Impaired driving has serious consequences,” said Media Relations Officer Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Thankfully my colleagues are okay and no one else was seriously hurt. This driver is now facing expensive fines and she’ll be without her vehicle for 90 days.”

This incident resulted in a significant police presence along Stewardson Way. The New Westminster Police Department thanked drivers for their patience, and the motorcyclists for their cooperation.
