New Westminster Police nab auto break-in suspect with help of witnesses

ON Monday at approximately 2:30 a.m., the New Westminster Police Department received two phone calls where one witness described someone breaking into a vehicle near 800 Carnarvon Street.

When police arrived on scene, a witness helped police by pointing them in the direction of the suspect. The suspect fled the scene and after a short foot pursuit, they were arrested and safely taken into custody.

“We owe a big thanks to the people who called 9-1-1,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “If you ever are witnessing what you believe to be a crime in progress, calling 9-1-1 allows our officers to arrive on scene fast. In this case, we were able to identify and arrest a suspect.”

Charges against a 40-year-old Vancouver resident related to theft under $5,000 will be recommended to Crown Counsel.
