New Westminster road rage incident

THE New Westminster Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in an investigation into a road rage incident.

On Saturday, July 9 at approximately 7:30 a.m., New Westminster Police received a call from someone saying their friend was assaulted. The witness said that as his friend was driving down 20th Street near 8th Avenue they both witnessed the driver of a black Mercedes C300 driving erratically and cutting off numerous vehicles.

The driver of the Mercedes then blocked both lanes of traffic, exited his vehicle, and punched his friend in the face. Police are asking anyone with dash-cam footage from 7:30 a.m. in the area of 20th Street near 8th Avenue to contact them.

The driver is described as a white male with stubble on his face and a black ball cap worn backwards. He was 5’8″ tall with a medium build and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a black over-the-shoulder bag.

“This type of behavior is not acceptable in our community,” said Sgt. Justine Thom on Thursday. “This heightened level of emotions on our roads is not safe. We’re working to identify this driver and we’re asking the public to help us do that by passing along any relevant dash-cam footage.”

If you have information or dash-cam footage that can assist in identifying this driver, you are requested to call 604-525-5411.
