North Vancouver RCMP arrest suspect who carjacked taxi

NORTH Vancouver RCMP are looking for witnesses and dash-cam footage in an effort to further their investigation of a carjacking of a taxi cab.

On Saturday, March 18 just after midnight, North Vancouver RCMP received multiple reports that a suspect assaulted a taxi driver and took off in the vehicle near Mountain Highway and Main Street.

Frontline officers immediately responded to the incident and provided first aid to the taxi driver, who was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. It is alleged the suspect was riding in the taxi and, at some point, assaulted the driver and stole the cab, leaving the driver behind.

Officers were able to track the taxi to the 1700-block of the Lillooet Road area. With the assistance of the Integrated Police Dog Services, the suspect was safely taken into custody without incident. The suspect is a 35-year-old man from North Vancouver facing multiple charges, including robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicl, and mischief.

“This was a frightening and dangerous situation for the taxi driver,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak. “The quick actions of our officers led to the safe arrest of the suspect and return of the vehicle.”
