One dead as vehicle catches fire after collision near Peace Arch border crossing (update)

AT approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Surrey RCMP attended a collision on Highway 99 only a few hundred meters north of the Canada / US border before the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) Port of Entry. Investigators determined a Porsche Cayenne SUV collided into a Toyota Sienna van causing the van to catch fire. 

The driver of the Porsche, an adult male from Washington State, was arrested by Surrey RCMP officers at the scene and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. In consultation with the BC Prosecution Service, investigators have released the driver from police custody as the investigation continues, police announced on Friday. 

The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene and investigators are currently working with the BC Coroner’s Service to positively identify the individual.
