One dead in Surrey house fire

A house fire in the 14300-block of 26 Avenue in Surrey has claimed a life.

At approximately 6:44 a.m. on Monday morning, Surrey RCMP received a report from emergency services of a house fire in the 14300-block of 26 Avenue.

By the time police arrived, the residence was fully engulfed and was being contained by fire crews on scene. Four occupants managed to escape the blaze and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth occupant was located deceased inside the residence.

The investigation is in the early stages and police officers in partnership with Surrey Fire are trying to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Officers are conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with anyone who witnessed the fire to obtain further information.
