One man dead in two-vehicle collision in Burnaby

BURNABY RCMP are appealing for dashcam video and witnesses after an early morning motor vehicle collision on Monday that resulted in one fatality.

On January 5, just after 5:20 a.m., frontline officers responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Austin Road near Gatineau Place. A man, the driver of one the vehicles involved, died despite life-saving measures taken by first responders.

The driver of the second vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

Roads in the area will remain closed. Motorists should expect some delays and are advised to find alternative routes. There is currently no update on when the roads will re-open.

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has conduct of the investigation.

“Our Criminal Collision Investigation Team is working to determine the cause of the crash,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst with Burnaby RCMP. “If you witnessed the collision and have not spoken to police, or if you have dashcam video in the area, please contact our investigators.”

Police are requesting anyone that witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage on Austin Road (in either direction), between 5:10 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5, to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9566 and quote file number 2026-499.
