ONTARIO: Anushan Jeyakumar charged with impersonating police officer in sexual assault investigation

ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police investigators from the Special Victims Unit have charged a man for impersonating a police officer to commit a sexual assault on a stranger in Brampton.

On September 21 at around 4:45 p.m., the victim, a 13-year-old female was walking through a plaza in the area of Bovaird Drive and Mountainash Road in the City of Brampton. It is alleged that the suspect falsely identified himself as a police officer and then sexually assaulted the victim.

Anushan Jeyakumar, a 33-year-old man from Brampton, was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Personating peace officer
  • Forcible confinement
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference

He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims.
