Ontario: Dilkirat Dhaliwal, 19, of Brampton charged with attempted murder

PEEL Regional Police investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have charged Dilkirat Dhaliwal, a 19-year-old man from Brampton, in relation to a stabbing investigation.

On Saturday, January 18, the victim, a 20-year-old man from Mississauga, was at a convention centre in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Airport Road in Brampton. At approximately 2 a.m., a large fight involving more than 10 people erupted in the parking lot of the convention centre.  The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim several times.  The victim was transported to a trauma centre where it was determined that his injuries were serious but non-life-threatening.

On Thursday, January 23, members of the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau executed a search warrant at a Brampton address.

As a result, Dhaliwal was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice on  Friday, January 24.
