ONTARIO: Man charged in 2023 homicide of Rakesh “Rick” Joshi of Vaughan

ONTARIO’S York Regional Police Homicide Unit investigators have charged a man with murder in relation to a 2023 homicide in the City of Vaughan.

On September 1 at 2:25 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a call for an injured person at a residence in the area of Laskin Drive near Ilan Ramon Boulevard. Attending officers found a deceased male inside the house with a significant head injury. The death was deemed to be a homicide.

The deceased was identified as Rakesh “Rick” Joshi, 50, of Vaughan.

On April 28, 2025, Alexander Cherniak, 51, of Vaughan, was charged with first-degree murder. A black Porsche 911 Turbo that was being sought has been recovered.
