ONTARIO: Police arrest fleeing suspect, Gurveer Bains, 22, of Brampton after serious collision

ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police investigators from the Major Collision Bureau have charged a 22-year-old man from Brampton, who fled from a serious collision involving a pedestrian and from police.

On Saturday, November 4 at approximately 2:17 a.m., the victim was crossing the roadway at the intersection of Castle Oaks Crossing and Bellchase Trail in Brampton. At that time, a vehicle, alleged to be driven by the accused, was travelling westbound on Castle Oaks Crossing when it struck the victim and fled the scene. The victim was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle made contact with a patrol vehicle that had attempted to stop the accused.  The vehicle was later stopped by police and the driver was arrested.  Gurveer Bains, a 22-year-old man from Brampton, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired Causing Bodily Harm
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 Mgs
  • Failure To Stop After Accident Resulting in Bodily Harm
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Flight From Peace Officer

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on November 13.

Around 2:10 a.m., police believe the same vehicle was involved in another fail to remain collision with another vehicle in that area. There were no physical injuries reported to police as a result of that incident.
