ONTARIO: Police charge two South Asians after locating firearms in Brampton traffic stop

ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police said on Monday that they located two firearms and laid numerous firearm-related charges after conducting a traffic stop in Brampton.

On September 27 at 8:19 p.m., Peel Regional Police patrol officers were conducting targeted enforcement at the retail complex located at Great Lakes Drive and Bovaird Drive in the City of Brampton, when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence. The investigation resulted in the recovery of two firearms, one being loaded, and a quantity of illicit drugs.

As a result, Manjinder Singh, a 27-year-old man from Brampton, and Sukhmanpreet Kaur, a 22-year-old woman of no fixed address, have each been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized (2 counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm (2 counts)
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm (2 counts)
  • Fail to comply with release order (2 counts)
  • Possession of opioid

Singh has also been charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt

Both individuals were held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
