SURREY Police’s Interim Chief Constable Todd Matsumoto said in a statement on Tuesday: “Following the Surrey Police Board’s announcement of a leadership transition for Surrey Police Service (SPS), I would like to formally acknowledge and thank Norm Lipinski for his leadership and guidance of SPS over the past five and a half years, and for his 47 years of service in policing.

“The milestones and accomplishments achieved by SPS are a reflection of his commitment to the Service, the community, and the city.

“I am committed to serving as Interim Chief Constable while the Board begins its search for the next Chief of SPS, and I look forward to working with the Surrey Police Board to maintain momentum on the work that matters most for Surrey.

“Throughout this leadership transition, our focus remains unchanged: keeping people in Surrey safe. The dedication and professionalism of our 685 police officers and 513 civilian staff will continue. Our work addressing issues such as extortion, organized crime, gangs and violence will continue without interruption.

“We will also continue to recruit, hire and deploy new and experienced officers, while advancing the largest policing transition in Canadian history.

“SPS will continue to deliver exceptional, community-focused public safety to Surrey, as we have since becoming the City’s police service on November 29, 2024.”
