PORT Moody Police frontline officers were kept busy with proactive enforcement over the Easter long weekend, nabbing drivers who were impaired. Suspensions ranged from a day to 90 days.

A number of vehicles were also removed from the road for excessive speeding violations. Early Sunday morning, two vehicles were observed street racing in the 3100-block of Saint Johns Street. The officer clocked the vehicles at 118 km/h in the posted 50 km/h corridor, though their speeds exceeded 120 km/h at one point. The drivers were intercepted and are now facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicles were impounded for street racing (see photos).

Two novice drivers and an international driver had their vehicles impounded for excessive speeding on Barnet Highway and David Avenue, respectively. Both novice drivers were also in violation of their licence restrictions.

“We all play a role in road safety,” said Constable Sam Zacharias. “Slow down and give yourself enough time to get to your destination. If your plans involve alcohol or impairing substances, please plan a safe ride home.”
