ONTARIO Premier Kathleen Wynne released the following statement marking the end of Ramadan:
“Eid-ul-Fitr is a time to give thanks for the many blessings we have received. In this spirit of gratitude, I want to extend my thanks to our Muslim friends and neighbours for helping us make Ontario a beacon of inclusion and opportunity.
This joyous day reminds us how fortunate we are that over 580,000 Muslims, more than half of the total Muslim population in Canada, call our province home.
Across Ontario, this is a community bound by faith, devotion and a belief in helping others. In our province, Muslims have given back in countless ways — including raising money for charity and working to improve Ontarians’ quality of life.
Diversity is a great source of strength in our province. We believe that everyone can contribute to making Ontario a better place to live, work and raise a family.
And so, on this important day, as you celebrate with your families at mosques and homes across the province, I want to thank Ontario’s Muslim community for its support in building a more prosperous, welcoming and compassionate province.
On behalf of the government of Ontario, Eid Mubārak, and enjoy the celebrations.”
