Pride flag raised at Delta City Hall in recognition of Pride Month

THE Pride flag was raised at Delta City Hall on June 1 in recognition of Pride Month and in support of the LGBTQ+ community, and all Delta citizens who stand for inclusion, diversity, and equity.

After raising the Pride flag, it was returned to half-mast in memory of the 215 child victims discovered on the grounds of the Kamloops Indian Residential School in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory.

This is the third consecutive year the City of Delta has raised the Pride Flag in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, a large in person celebration could not be held.

Delta Mayor George V. Harvie said: “The flag-raising ceremony in celebration of Pride Month is a symbol of the city’s commitment to build a more inclusive and welcoming Delta. We recognize the city’s role in combatting racism, hate, and discrimination and the new Mayor’s Task Force on Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism will assist in providing meaningful actions to expand diversity and inclusion in our policies and in the community.”
