Prolific offender with weapon arrested after chase by New Westminster Police

IN November warrants for the arrest of a prolific offender with ties to New Westminster were issued after the man escaped lawful custody from Metro Vancouver Transit Police. As the man fled from the police he threw away a loaded handgun.

Both the Street Crime Unit and the Crime Reduction Unit worked to locate the man. While the search began in New Westminster, evidence pointed the teams to several locations in Surrey.

New Westminster Police Department officers observed the suspect in Surrey getting into a taxi. After pulling over the taxi the suspect fled with an officer giving chase. After a short foot chase, the suspect was safely arrested. He was found to have a weapon in his possession.

“Considering the lengthy criminal history of this individual, taking him into police custody carries with it a higher degree of risk,” stated Sergeant Sanjay Kumar, “Thanks to the excellent work of both the Street Crime Unit and the Crime Reduction Unit, this suspect will have his day in court.”

This suspect was wanted on three provincial warrants and one federal warrant in connection to break and enters in the Lower Mainland region.

The New Westminster Police Department reminds residents that if they see a break and enter in progress, call 9-1-1.
