RIDGE Meadows RCMP say they currently have an area outside of Haney Place Mall and the Haney Place Transit Exchange in Maple Ridge blocked off for an ongoing police investigation.

On Wednesday, March 25 at approximately 11 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a disturbed individual in the 11900-block of Haney Place in Maple Ridge.

Officers on scene located a vehicle in the area with the male who was the subject of the complaint inside it.

The male was extricated from the vehicle and safely apprehended by officers without incident under the Mental Health Act, before being transported to hospital. No injuries were reported.

Officers are still holding the scene out of an abundance of caution as they continue to investigate.

The public is being asked to continue to avoid the immediate area until further notice. Parking is affected; however, city facilities, transit services, and businesses in the area remain open.

No further information is available at this time, police said.
