REAL SALT LAKE 1 – VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC 1

‘Caps earn valiant road point in Utah

SANDY, UT – Vancouver Whitecaps FC earned a 1-1 draw against Western Conference side Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium this Saturday evening.

The first half began with a save from goalkeeper Thomas Hasal, as his diving effort parried away an opportunity from Justin Marem early on in the 9th minute of the match.

Following a throw-in at the 40th, striker Lucas Cavallini saw his chipped volley inside the area saved by goalkeeper Zac MacMath.

The second half saw the hosts scoring the first goal of the match, as Jasper Löffelsend’s through pass connected to Sergio Córdova within the final third. The forward’s quick finish then gave his squad a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute of the match.

With the away side pushing on throughout the rest of the half, a cross whipped in from attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld connected to Julian Gressel, as the wingback’s header tied the game in the 87th minute.

Once again, with late game heroics, the ‘Caps continue to show their ability to conjure up magic just before fulltime to gain results. Tonight was the 14th point gained on goals scored after the 85th minute, which is the most in MLS this season.

The Blue & White return home for another crucial match as they host Nashville SC in Women & Girls in Sport Night at BC Place on Saturday, August 27, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. PT. For tickets, visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
