SINCE September 20, Richmond RCMP say they have received three reports involving alleged thefts of trailers from local businesses. Through the subsequent investigations, it has been determined these thefts involved the use of four semi-trailers that were reported stolen out of Delta and Richmond. The two semi-trucks from Delta have been recovered, however, the ones from Richmond are still outstanding.
“While we cannot conclusively link these thefts at this time, there are a number of similar factors that lead us to believe further thefts may occur which is why we are warning our local businesses,” said Sgt. Russel Yugai, Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Support Unit, on Friday.
“It is apparent the individuals involved in these thefts have knowledge around semi-trailers and commercial shipping operations which is why we are recommending that businesses put additional measures in place to protect their trailers and containers. This could include adding GPS trackers, having on-site security or hardening general security measures around your business.”
The three alleged thefts targeted locations:
- A closed and gated business in the area of Viking Way;
- An open and gated business with security in the area of No 8 Road;
- A closed and ungated business in the area of Burdette Street.
The total value of good stolen is in excess of $60,000.
These investigations remain ongoing.
