Mississauga: On Sunday, May 10, the most generous hearts of Mississauga will come together to celebrate the third annual Seva Spark Gala to raise money to support hunger alleviation and food security programs in two of Mississauga’s most disenfranchised communities. Seva Spark will be held at the Lakeshore Convention Centre. With a goal of $50,000, the 2015 gala will be emceed by radio personalities Harjot Ghuman and Raj Ghuman.   They keynote address will be presented by Raptor’s superfan and entrepreneur Nav Bhatia.

The funds raised will support the organization’s mission of providing safe, nutritious, culturally appropriate and personally acceptable food to people living in Mississauga’s L5B and L5C postal codes and the community of Malton. Each month, Seva Food Bank serves over 2000 individuals, and distributed 70,000 pounds of food.

“We’re trying something new this year with the Seva Spark Gala”, explains Sandy Grewal, Chair of Seva Spark.  “This year, we have adopted the theme of Art Deco and the team at Seva Food Bank has been busy planning and memorable night.”

“I think it is very timely to host the event on Mother’s Day.  Women, mothers in particular, often experience hunger differently than the rest of the family”, states Daven Seebarran, Executive Director of Seva Food Bank.  “Some mother’s we see everyday must live on $2.00 a day to support their families.  Often these mother’s miss meals, so that their children are fed”.  Seebarran adds,  “This event celebrates all of the incredible mothers out there, and we encourage you to celebrate with your mother by coming out on May 10”.

Each year, Seva Food Bank celebrates the work of three very special honorees. The producers at CJMR 1320 AM, will be honored with the inaugural Founder’s Award, in recognition of their commitment to serving families living in poverty.  Two additional awards will be presented to volunteers to recognize their contributions.  This year’s Gala will also feature a diversity of performances by local artists.
