Shooting at Coquitlam residential building

COQUITLAM RCMP are investigating a shooting that occurred at a residential building in Coquitlam.

Early morning on Saturday, January 16, Coquitlam RCMP responded to a shots-fired call in the 600-block of Whiting Way in Coquitlam. A woman was found with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was immediately taken to hospital for medical assistance.

The Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team was called to assist and a 21-year-old male was arrested without incident at the scene and remains in custody. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to public safety, police said.

CTV News reported that residents heard a loud bang followed by the fire alarm going off.

A resident said that they heard a girl yelling for help outside of the lobby area. They heard the fire alarm and came downstairs.

Another resident said that the victim was rolling around holding her arm and was pretty much covered in blood.

After a standoff for a few hours, police had a man in custody.
