SEAN Bindra (CEO), Jailum Bhandar, Samantha Williams, Leon Girling, Kris Moore and Keith Thomas, fourth year marketing students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) have launched Short & Sweet that is dedicated to selling cookies of “unparalleled gooey deliciousness” as part of their marketing practicum to graduate with a marketing degree.

One component of this practicum is to create an online business that sells a product or products to raise funds for the Kwantlen Venture Fund. The Kwantlen Venture Fund supports future KPU entrepreneurs who want to start their own business.

The group tells The VOICE that as students they realize the importance of helping each other. Therefore, Short & Sweet is also donating five per cent of its profits to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. For each dollar Short & Sweet donates, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank will be able to purchase $3 worth of food.

On behalf of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, we are thankful to Short & Sweet for their generous donation,” says Glenda Morin, Community Events Coordinator.

Their base of operations is at the university’s Surrey campus where they bake and store all of their cookies in their state-of-the-art cafeteria kitchen. Consumers can purchase cookies and support their graduation efforts by visiting their corporate website: www.shortandsweetshop.com

The business will operate until March 22. They accept online payments, as well as cash payments.

The students explain: “This online business is a key component of our Marketing Practicum which prepares students for the business world. We are able to apply the knowledge we have acquired in our educational careers in a way that is meaningful to the community. Our group has launched Short & Sweet to provide support for those in need, while delivering value to the consumer and ourselves. In this sense, Short & Sweet produces a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. Not only are community members investing in delicious cookies, but they will also be helping support the education of students and the efforts of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. With all the proceeds going towards great causes, and all the satisfaction and indulgence going towards our customers, Short & Sweet is committed to making this world a little bit sweeter.”
