Single-vehicle collision in Surrey leads to road closure

ON Thursday, at approximately 12:08 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to 72 Avenue, between 130 Street and 132 Street, for a report of a single-vehicle collision. A black Jaguar sedan was travelling westbound on 72 Avenue when it lost control and struck the centre median.

The adult male driver of the Jaguar was taken to a local area hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

From witness descriptions and video it is believed that speed is the major contributing factor to the collision, police said. The incident is still under investigation.

Police said that 72 Avenue was expected to be closed between 132 and 130 streets for several hours for the investigation and requested motorists to avoid the area and find an alternate route for their morning commute.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of 72 Avenue between midnight and 12:15 a.m. is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file# 2023-44592.
