“Sochan De Sirnavein” latest book of renowned writer, poet , columnist and critic Gurdish Kaur Grewal was released by Punjabi Adbi Sangat Literary Society of Canada (Regd.) on 28 July at Newton Public library amidst great fanfare. The release function which lasted for over two hours was attended by an overwhelming crowd comprising many heavyweights from fields of literature, arts, poetry and writing beside large number of readers and fans of writings of Gurdish Grewal . The Chairman’s Committee on this occasion comprised of Punjabi Adbi Sangat’s Director Jaiteg Singh Anant, renowned writer Ravinder Ravi and Jagjit Singh Takkhar besides Mrs. Grewal.
BC Minister of Advanced Education, Amrik S. Virk and Member of Parliament Jasbir S. Sandhu attended this evening as the chief guests. The evening started with tributes to Hindi & Punjabi film actor Pran, prominent eye-surgeon from Patiala Mr. Dhanwant Singh and leading politician Charanjit Singh Atwal. Jaiteg Anant read welcome note on this occasion and also outlined the literary and religious work undertaken by Punjabi Adbi Sangat on an international scale . Sohan Singh Sital’s famous writing “Gaddi” was presented by Jagjit S Takkhar as memorial to the anniversary of “Panja Sahib Saka” which happened to fall on the same day . The actual book release followed with Dr. Satpreet Grewal managing the stage in a very impressive manner . Mrs. Grewal was honored with bouquet, plaque and a shawl by Jaiteg Anant along with Minister Amrik Virk following the book release ceremony . Dr. Gurminder Sidhu , Ravinder Ravi , Dr. Baldev Singh Khaira and Sukhi Bath credited Gurdish Grewal’s writings as a beacon of hope and inspiration for society. Her writings were credited with having a magical touch with capability to captivate hearts and souls of her readers. The element of simplicity and solution based approach in Gurdish Grewal’s writings was also well appreciated at this event . Member of Parliament Jasbir Sandhu bestowed an Honorary Certificate from House of Commons onto Mrs. Grewal on this occasion for her contributions to the field of Punjabi Arts, Culture and Literature. Singers Chamkaur S. Sekhon and Gian K. Pasla regaled the evening with songs from Gurdish Grewal’s previous book “Harf Yadaan De” while Dr. Satpreet S. Grewal presented one of her poems. Writer Ravinder Ravi was also honored by Jaiteg Anant with books comprising of literature from both sides of Indian Border and a bouquet.
