Surrey City Council approves $4M road paving program

SURREY City Council on Monday approved a $4M road paving contract. Awarded to BA Blacktop Ltd., the project includes repaving at eight locations, including roughly 2 lane-km of major road network, 10 lane-km of arterial roads, and 9 lane-km of collector roads.

“Council is committed to update and improve existing roads to keep our transportation network moving,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “A well-maintained road system not only promotes smoother travel experiences, but also improves safety by reducing the risk of accidents and enhances overall connectivity within the community. This Council will continue to invest in infrastructure to support the needs of our growing community and to create a more sustainable environment for all residents.”

The projects are as follows:

  • 88 Avenue: 144 Street to 146 Street
  • 80 Avenue: 17800 block to 184 Street
  • 72 Avenue: 184 Street to 188 Street
  • Colebrook Road: 164 Street to 168 Street
  • 192 Street: 20 Avenue to 24 Avenue
  • 108 Avenue: 156 Street to 162 Street
  • 188 Street: 80 Avenue to Harvie Road
  • 76 Avenue: 188 Street to 194 Street

The contract permits construction from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, in compliance with the Surrey Noise Control Bylaw, 1982, No. 7044.  The contract includes nighttime paving in some locations to avoid major traffic congestions.

Work is scheduled to commence in April and is expected to be completed by fall.
