Surrey man arrested for assaulting Delta police officer

JESSIE Nolan, 34, of Surrey has been charged with assaulting a police officer, causing bodily harm and obstructing a police officer in an incident last Saturday (March 18) in Delta.

At about 9 p.m. on March 18, a Delta Police officer conducted a street check of an adult male in the 8600 block of 120th Street. The male was initially cooperative until he learned he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in relation to a Surrey incident.
The male then fled on foot but after a brief foot chase the officer caught him. The male then engaged in a physical altercation with the officer and got away.
During the altercation the officer sustained injuries to his upper body, face and shoulder. Although injured, the officer gave chase on foot but due to his injuries was unable to continue. The male was not located despite assistance from RCMP and the deployment of K-9 and Air One.
The Delta officer was transported by ambulance to hospital where he was treated and released the following morning.
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Delta Police were advised by Surrey RCMP that their patrol officers had located and arrested the suspect on an outstanding warrant on another matter. He was located at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the 9100-block of King George Boulevard.
The Delta Police officer remains off duty while he recovers from his injuries.
