Surrey MLAs attend Lunar New Year event

THE 17th Annual Lunar New Year Gala was held in Surrey on February 8, drawing a large crowd. The event was hosted by the White Rock South Surrey Chinese Association and co‑organized by the Huaxia Multicultural Society. Several MLAs from Surrey attended in person to join the community festivities.

Surrey‑Centre MLA Amna Shah, Surrey–Fleetwood MLA Jagrup Brar, and Surrey–Guildford MLA Garry Begg attended the celebration together, handing out traditional red envelopes to attendees and engaging warmly with the public. The three MLAs also presented certificates of appreciation to the organizing associations, recognizing their long‑standing efforts in promoting multiculturalism and strengthening community cohesion.

The evening opened with an energetic performance by four Cantonese lion dance teams, followed by a series of vibrant cultural and musical performances. The program showcased the rich cultural heritage and festive spirit of the local Chinese community. Nearly one thousand residents took part in the celebration, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
