Surrey NDP MP’s Harry Bains, Sue Hammell and Bruce Ralston made the following statement after they were not invited to the opening of the Emergency Room at the Surrey Memorial Hospital last week.
“We join with all Surrey residents in welcoming the long awaited expansion of Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Since our election in 2005 the NDP MLAs have advocated on behalf of our constituents for dramatic and necessary improvements to the hospital. Over that same time many members of our community have spoken out to express their commitment to better hospital services in Surrey. Our combined efforts finally resulted in the Liberal government recognizing the real needs of our growing city. The shovels went in the ground, the community got behind the project and many people, including children and businesses, raised money to help with funding.
During construction, people were excited that we would soon have an expanded healthcare facility to provide timely emergency care to serve the needs of our growing community.
Unfortunately, the Surrey NDP MLAs were not on hand to celebrate this important opening because, in her characteristically hyper partisan way, Premier Christy Clark chose not to invite the three NDP MLAs in Surrey to share this moment of community pride with our constituents whom we proudly represent.
We are disappointed Premier Christy Clark continues in the partisan tradition of the Liberal Party, instead of governing for all British Columbians.”
