Surrey rally in support of farmers in India protesting new federal farm laws

SOUTH Asians in Surrey held a massive rally along Strawberry Hill Plaza on 72nd Avenue to express their solidarity with the protesting farmers of Punjab and other states in India who are demanding the federal government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeal the three new agricultural laws that they say favour the big corporations and will spell the ruin of farmers.

There has been international condemnation of the brutal force used against peaceful farmers marching to the national capital to protest the laws and demand negotiations with the federal government that has been taken aback by the farmers’ tenacity and fearlessness and the support that they have received from the general population – as well as from the Punjabi diaspora.
