ALMOST 17 hours after a brazen homicide in broad daylight rocked a Surrey neighbourhood — and 13 hours after The VOICE had reported the incident on our website — Surrey RCMP finally informed the public on Monday at 9:47 a.m.

The shocking murder and the RCMP’s incompetence has caused a heightened sense of fear in Surrey, with everyone asking when the next fatal shooting will occur. They feel that Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke and the Surrey RCMP are just continuing with their political game to keep the RCMP in the city.

Surrey RCMP said on Monday that on July 9 at approximately 5:07 p.m., police responded to a shooting in an alleyway north of 96 Avenue and 130 Street that left one man deceased.

When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male victim unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Edge SUV. The victim was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police are investigating whether a burnt-out vehicle located a short time later in the area of 8200-block of 151A Street is connected to the homicide. No suspect description is currently available, and police are looking for any witnesses or those with dash camera footage from the area, to contact police.

The scene was cordoned off for a significant amount of time while the investigation unfolded. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in and will be working in partnership with Surrey RCMP.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase; no further information will be provided at this time.

Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the IHIT Information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
