Surrey RCMP say deceased person was passenger ejected from vehicle, not pedestrian

SURREY RCMP now say that the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in Newton early Friday morning did not involve a pedestrian. The deceased person was an occupant of the involved vehicle.

On December 15 at 2:39 am, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 7300-block of 138 Street. One person was declared deceased on scene and an additional person was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Based on initial observations and the report received by police, the deceased person was believed to have been a pedestrian. But RCMP say that through further investigation it has been determined that the deceased person was actually a passenger who was ejected from the vehicle.

Road closure remain in effect on 138 Street between 74 Avenue and 72A Avenue.  Investigators are on scene, working to gather evidence and determine all the circumstances that lead to this fatality.

Anyone with information, including dash cam footage in the area on 138 Street, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2023-204342.
