Surrey RCMP seize firearms and ammunition after man arrested under Mental Health Act

ON
Monday, shortly before 6 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a male requiring medical attention in the 19100-block of 73 Avenue. The area of 191 Street and 73 Avenue was closed for vehicles and pedestrians until approximately 10: 30 p.m. as officers dealt with the situation.

Cpl. Joanie Sidhu told The VOICE on Tuesday morning that officers were dealing with a person who was having a mental health crisis and had barricaded himself inside the residence.

An Emergency Response Team and negotiators were called in to persuade the man to come out. He eventually exited his residence and was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to an area hospital. The man was found to have consumed drugs.

Sidhu said police located and seized a handgun, a shotgun and ammunition inside his residence.
