SURREY RCMP Superintendent Mandip “Manny” Mann has been promoted to Chief Superintendent. He is the first South Asian to hold this rank in B.C.

His new position is  Assistant District Commander / Operations Officer, Lower Mainland District.

In May 2017, then-Surrey RCMP Officer-in-Charge, Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy had announced Mann’s promotion to the rank of superintendent in the position of Investigative Services Officer.  In that new role, Mann oversaw all of Surrey Detachment’s investigative sections including: drugs, major crime, property crime, vulnerable persons, and the Special Projects Investigation Enforcement Section.

Mann has been with the RCMP for over 25 years now and has done all of his service in the Lower Mainland region, with nine years in Surrey. After beginning his career on Surrey General Duty, he quickly gravitated towards investigative services with a position in the Surrey Drug Section. His next 15 years were spent in investigative roles with the E Division Undercover Unit, North Vancouver RCMP General Investigation Section, and over seven years with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). He was also a member of the Emergency Response Team.

In 2011 he returned to Surrey Detachment as a team commander in the Major Crime Section, followed by a promotion to Senior Investigator of Major Crime.

Fordy said back then: “As the first RCMP Superintendent in British Columbia of South Asian descent, he is well positioned to be an excellent role model for our youth and better connect the Surrey RCMP with Surrey’s significant South Asian community.”

Born and raised in B.C., Mann has lived in Surrey for over 21 years and has raised his family there. As a minor hockey coach for 10 years and a past Cops for Cancer rider, Mann is committed to and engaged with his local community. He is also fluent in the Punjabi language.

“Ultimately, I joined the RCMP to help people and to put bad guys in jail – that’s still why I come to work every day,” said Mann last year. “I am honoured to take on this new role in Investigative Services. We have a fantastic team who are dedicated to solving crime and protecting our citizens, that I will very be proud to lead.”
