SURREY’S Guru Nanak Food Bank organized a ‘Mega Food Drive’ on Canada Day with the help of more than 100 volunteers and the business community and collected 140,000 kilograms of food within eight hours.
The event ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and volunteers weighed and recorded all the donations.
The organizers claim that they have broken the previous record of 119,068 kilograms of food donations that was set by the Greater Toronto Apartment Association in 2014.
The final numbers were sent to Guinness World Records and the organizers hope that the the record will be verified in a few days.
